VISUAL // EGYPTIAN HIP HOP “WILD HUMAN CHILD”

Hailing from: Manchester, England
Web: MySpace

The music of Egyptian Hip Hop is oddly alluring, and so is their video for “Wild Human Child.” It’s topsy-turvy dance rock that never takes the most direct route to its destination.

While the band are short on material and high on buzz, their limited output is very good, including the memorable track “Rad Pitt” from last year. “Heavenly” / “Wild Human Child” is their debut single and it’s on on 12 April on Hit Club Records. Purchase here from the Pure Grove online shop.

VISUAL // MAY68 “MY WAYS”

Hailing from: Manchester, England
Web: MySpace

United by “the boredom of an overcast city going through the indie rock motions,” and “a common goal for things bigger, better and more colourful,” MAY68 formed with aim of being the antidote to Manchester’s musical malaise. These may be lines from their bio, but they’re apt in describing this electro-pop band that’s doing much more than reinventing the wheel.

Today sees the UK release of the debut album from We Have Band – simply called WHB. It’s an album we’ve been lucky enough to spend some time with lately, and it’s exactly what every music fan needs as the seasons move from winter to spring. It’s joyous with a subtle touch of melancholia. It’s a record that takes you to dizzying heights without going overboard.

Although These New Puritans are running around Europe promoting their sophomore album Hidden (out now on Domino / Angular), they found the time to put together the excellent promo clip for their latest single “Attack Music.”

INTERVIEW // SOUTHERN BELLE

Hailing from: Boston, USA
Web: MySpace

Sometimes dance music is more than just about freaking out on the dance floor. Southern Belle’s Isom Innis understands this. He knows that music is more than just about the sounds – it’s also about the feel and the journey.

While he has a few tracks floating around the internet, recent track “Walk Out” is the anchor. It’s a song that looks at a break-up in the most un-Conor Oberst way possible, and that’s exactly what we need these days.

VISUAL // FLORENCE & THE MACHINE

Normally I wouldn’t cover an artist quite as big as Florence & the Machine, but this is unique occasion. I came across this clip via a tweet from XFM DJ Marsha Shandur – it’s a rare 1935 version of A Midsummer’s Nights Dream with “Rabbit Heart (Raise if Up)” playing over it.

It’s amazing how well it matches up. Watch it now before the label takes it down.

Congrats on the great job by Pretty Monkey Studio.

VISUAL // HELLO SEAHORSE! “CRIMINAL”

Hailing from: Mexico City, Mexico
Web: MySpace

Late last summer our ears were turned on their ears when we were exposed to all of the exciting sounds currently coming out of Mexico. Without getting into a long list bands, at least not right now, one of our favourites were (and still remain) three-piece electro/indie unit Hello Seahorse!

VISUAL // IS TROPICAL “WHEN O’ WHEN”

Hailing from: London, England
Web: MySpace

I think I may have invented a new term for the kind of music Is Tropical plays: Eclectro. It’s probably already been used, but I’m just going to keep believing I invented it.

Their track “When O’ When” starts off simple enough, then suddenly starts shooting off in all directions. The result is a catchy tune layered in many genres. NewIslands have done an awesome remix of “When O’ When,” which is available over at hitclubblog.blogspot.com.

The band is currently touring the UK and has a 7″ available at the Pure Groove webstore.

VISUAL // GOLDHAWKS “WHERE IN THE WORLD”

Hailing from: London, England
Web: MySpace

At first listen, you too may try to figure out who this band sounds like. WIth vocals that go from low to high in a heartbeat, and a steady drum beat throughout, you too may think, this sounds familiar.
